When you see a healthcare provider, they will need information from your health insurance ID card to verify your coverage. They look at your group number and member ID number, or dependent ID number if you are a dependent on someone else's insurance plan.
A) Your Group Number is the number found on your health insurance ID card that is unique to your company. Everyone who has insurance through your company will have the same group number. The group number is created when a company first signs up for insurance.
B) Your Member ID Number is unique to you. Every employee will have their own member ID number. This unique number allows health care providers and pharmacies verify your coverage.
C) Your Dependent's ID Number will generally be the same ID number as the primary subscriber with a suffix at the end to differentiate between dependents.
- For example, let’s say your ID number is 123456789. Your ID number will be 123456789-000. Your dependents have the same ID number with a different suffix at the end. Usually, it goes down the line from oldest to youngest. Your spouse’s ID number will end in -001, your oldest child's will end in -002, and so on.
Note: You can always verify coverage for yourself or your dependents by using the main member ID number found in your SimplyInsured dashboard.
Both your group number and your member ID number will be located on your physical ID card and your mobile ID card, which is available on your SimplyInsured dashboard. Employers can also locate the company's group number on their monthly invoices.
