If you need to pick up a medication you should absolutely do so, but you will have to pay the full price for the medication up front as your ID card is not available yet. However, there are options to get reimbursed quickly.
1) Pharmacies will reimburse you for a prescription if you come back with your insurance information at a later date. They vary in how long they give you to come back, but many will let you come back up to 30 days after the purchase date to get reimbursed. You can always ask your pharmacy when you pick up the prescription what their policy is.
2) If option 1 does not work out for you, we can always submit a claim form to get reimbursement directly from the insurance company. They can take up to 90 days to process the claim, so getting reimbursed from the pharmacy is preferable; but we always have this option if need be.
- In order to file a claim, we will need a photo of the receipt and the label printout given with the medication (which has the information about the prescribing doctor, the pharmacy, the dosage of the medication, prescription number, etc.) This comes with all prescriptions.
