Hi there! So, you’ve recently been approved for Health Insurance, and you’ve either A.) downloaded your ID Card from your SimplyInsured Dashboard (click here to find out how), or B.) received your ID cards in the mail from the Insurance Company. Now you’re looking at this card and you see a bunch of weird looking numbers and letters - what do those mean?
First, let’s talk about what all of these ID numbers are:
Member ID: This is how your Insurance Company identifies you as an actively insured member of their services. Some Companies refer to this as a “Account Number” but functionally they’re the same. Your Member ID is unique to you.
Group ID: This is how your Insurance Company identifies your employer as an actively insured Organization. The Group ID is unique to your employer; however, it is not unique to your ID Card, as the rest of the folks at your Organization should share the same Group ID.
Rx BIN (Banking Identification Number): When you fill a prescription at a Pharmacy, this number tells the Pharmacy how and where to process your prescription, as well as who will reimburse them for the cost of the prescription after it has been filled. *Note that not all ID Cards include an Rx BIN number.
Next, here are a list of times when likely likely need to present your card:
- Your first office visit after getting approved.
- You’re visiting an office you’ve never visited before.
- You’ve recently changed Insurance Companies.
- Your first visit to a pharmacy
Most offices won’t ask for your card after you’ve given it to them once, as they likely have it stored in their system for future visits; however, it’s always a good idea to have your card on-hand just in case something goes awry.
