If you’re curious about when you can terminate employees from your Company’s Insurance Plan, we can help you with that!
You don’t have to wait until the first day of the month, or the last day of the month, just to cancel an employee’s Insurance plan. Insurance plans can be cancelled at any time during the month; however, the last effective date of the plan will vary depending on the start date. Here’s how to know what the last effective date is:
Scenario 1: If your employee’s Insurance Plan start date was the first of the month, the last effective date post-cancellation will be the last day of the month in which it was cancelled.
Example - Amelia’s Insurance start-date was February 1st, 2011. Amelia was terminated on October 11th, 2016. Her last effective date for her Plan will be October 31st.
Scenario 2: If your employee’s Insurance Plan start date was the 15th of the month, the last effective date post-cancellation will be the 14th of the month.
Example - Jeff’s Insurance start-date was February 1st, 2011. Jeff was terminated on October 11th, 2016. His last effective date for his Plan will be October 14th.
